This is the fingertip (distal phalanx) injury, which is caused when the finger is held in extension and a little downwards and might be jammed into hurtling ball. This force may strain or rupture the extensor digitorum longus tendon. The finger is forcedly bend and a patient is unable to voluntarily extend it. This kind of injury commonly happens in such sports as: baseball, softball, basketball, korfball or volleyball, that’s why we can call it “Baseball Finger”.
